“Our whole office enjoyed the experience of making strudel and, as you know, it’s hard to please everyone, but you managed to do just that! We were all very impressed and delighted in Marco’s generous nature which came through in his teaching, the fine ingredients and the delectable offerings provided. A sincere thank-you from all of us.”

»Brew your own Beer Course with Extract & Speciality Grains (Day 1)
Price: 375$ (+tax) for all 3 Brew your own Beer Courses (courses have to be taken in succession and are not transferable to any future dates as students are encouraged to brew their beer in-between course 1 & 2 and the following courses are based on the fermentation, bottling and conditioning time of the beers) Day 2 is on 30/March & Day 3 is on 04/May. The first class will arm you to brew your first beer and get it fermenting! In this class the instructor will brew a classic example of a beer style with your assistance. You will learn to read the recipe, boil the wort, add the hops, chill the beer and pitch the yeast. You will also learn how to sanitize your equipment, and perform other tasks like ‘taking a gravity reading’ and proper fermentation procedures. *Students are encouraged to go home and repeat the process themselves as the next two classes are timed in accordance with the brewing process. By the time you’re finished these classes you will have the skills needed to make delicious beer at home, troubleshoot common problems, and adjust recipes to suit your preferences. You will also, very likely, be addicted to homebrewing. About the Instructor Adam Henderson is an award-winning homebrewer and a Certified Cicerone (cicerone.org) who founded RainCity Brands, a beer import agency in Vancouver, BC. Adam is also awaiting an official rank as a BJCP Certified Beer Judge (bjcp.org). In homebrewing, Adam discovered something that quickly became much more than a hobby, and a little closer to an obsession. A staunch evangelist for ‘real beer’, Adam is always happy to help people get involved in homebrewing, and to share his award-winning techniques. Upon completion of all three courses a Certificate of Completion will be issued.

Class Two Now that you’ve made a beer you’ll want to get it into bottles! Learn how to judge if your beer is finished fermenting and if so, when and how to bottle and carbonate it. We will also go back and take a look at some examples of classic beer styles, recipes and other techniques in more detail. »Brew your own Beer course – All Grain Brewing (Day 1)
Introductory All Grain Brewing Take your brewing to the next level. Go All Grain! Learn how to brew amazing, award winning beer from nothing but the raw ingredients. Brewing from all grain versus extract gives the homebrew an endless number of options when designing their own beers or attempting to clone beers. This course is designed for the intermediate homebrewer – someone who has brewed extract based recipes of 19-13 litres. Our “Extract with Specialty Grains” course IS NOT a required prerequisite for this class, though it is recommended. It is however best if the student has extract brewing experience as basics like sanitation, siphoning/transferring, will not be covered nor will time permit the explanation of all equipment or other techniques that do not pertain specifically to all grain brewing. If you’re unsure if this is the right course for you please contact the instructor here: adam@raincitybrands.com This class will cover: · Mashing principles and theory · Grain/Malt basics and selection · All grain equipment and selection · Mashing techniques · Sparging techniques · Recipe design and considerations · Tasting and Evaluation The student should be prepared to brew an all grain beer within one week of the first class. This will allow them to ferment and bottle the beer in time to taste it with the instructor during the second/last class. Due to the variety of equipment available (mash tuns, kettles, etc…) the instructor will contact each student prior to the start of class to discuss what they might have, so that the student is prepared to brew shortly after the first class.

»Brew your own Beer Course with Extract & Speciality Grains (Day 3)
Class Three Your beer is finished; now, lets’ see how you made out. You will taste your beer alongside the instructor’s beer and the beer of your classmates, learning how to evaluate the beer and identify common mistakes in the brewing process. This will allow us to look ahead, at how you can improve your beer or make it different next time to better suit your taste.
